Letter of Appointment on its Way

I JUST found out that my letter of appointment is on its way. A letter of appointment is the final document that is mailed to you with your final contract. You need to have a Letter of Appointment to get a visa. You do not write a letter of appointment. It is written for you and sent to you.

Waiting for a Letter of Appointment

I had been waiting for my Letter of Appointment for months, and it turns out that my recruiter had it all this time, waiting to send a bunch of letters out in bulk. I wish that they hold told me that.

How Much Money Should You Bring to Teach in South Korea?

I know that people would want to know how much money should you bring to teach in South Korea. Anyway, I am working away, to make my final arrangements to go… earning money for my airline ticket and money to get set up there. Let me put it this way, I am trying to work as much as I can before I go so that there will be no financial surprises, and if crazy North Korea decides to get froggy, and start a war, I definitely want to be able to hop on a plane, jet, or boat and get out of the area. I recommend that people bring at least $500 with them, and have enough to fly home.

When Do You Get the EPIK Settlement Allowance?
You will get a 300,000 won (maybe about $250 see the exchange rate) settlement allowance. I think that it is sent electronically to you bank account during EPIK orientation. The amount could change. Check your contract! Depending on where your orientation is located, you may not have access to an ATM machine. I did at Jeonju University. There was a convience store right on campus.

Oh, yeah, and I have a ton of stuff still to get rid of or store, or whatever. I am really hoping that I am not going to have to be up at 3 a.m. before I am set to go, putting stuff away. That would not be cute at all.

I can’t believe I found your website. I’m looking to teach in Korea in the fall but have just started the sending resume process. I don’t have a degree in education and just receive my esl certification. I also contacted Footprints recruiting but really haven’t received anything back from them except that my login has been approved. I’m overwhelmed at how many jobs are out there. I can’t believe it took you this long. I’m worried that I won’t find a job by fall. Are you going to be teaching in Busan? It looks beautiful, I sent resumes to several ads but they all want elementary school teacher. I’m waiting to get my fingerprints done as I write this, I was looking for what the H an apostile was. Good luck

I’m going through the same process and your site has been a huge help.

  • Hey!

Did the visa process go smoothly with the embassy?

I’m currently in the same shoes, received my NOA and contracts, and waiting on my visa from the embassy. I’m going to Gyeongsangnam-do, and I’m curious where you’ll end up. 😉

My brother did the exact same thing as this – he taught English in Korea for two years after his degree – he enjoyed his time abroad immensely and even met his future wife over there. I can recommend it to anyone as a year out option.
